Village of Benzonia Academy Park East (Village of Benzonia) Located on the east side of Michigan Avenue (US-31) at the corner of Traverse Avenue (Homestead Road). Four acre neighborhood park with baseball, basketball, 4 tennis courts, a playground, and ice-skating and hockey in the winter. Service Area: Village of Benzonia, Benzie County. Crystal Lake Elementary School (Benzie County Central School District) K-5 grade school with gymnasium, cafeteria, multipurpose field with basketball, soccer, softball, and parking. Entranceway from the intersection of US-31 and M-115. Located on the south side of Severance Street. Service Area: Benzie County Central School District. Accessibility Assessment - 3
Mills Community House (Mills Community House Association) Located on the east side of US-31 at Walker Street and adjacent to the Academy Park East. The historic 100 year old building is being restored yet remains operational. It houses a third floor auditorium, second floor library, and lower level meeting rooms with a commercial kitchen. The building is accessible to ADA standards. The original “Mills Cottage” is the only remaining structure of the former college founded in 1858 by early settlers, and remains today as a focal point of the Village of Benzonia. The Capital Campaign Fund and the Permanent Endowment Fund are managed by the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. Benzonia Public Library Opened in 1925, the facility is the oldest library continuously operated in Benzie County. The library features the Catton Room, a collection of historic Benzie County newspapers, and a collection of books from the early college and academy libraries. The library will have additional floor space added as a part of the Mills Community House Renovation Plan.
Benzonia Township Hall and Fire Hall (Benzonia Township) Located on the corner of Traverse Avenue and Michigan Avenue (US-31). Includes a large meeting room, township offices, and the fire hall. Service Area: Benzonia Township. Accessibility Assessment - 3
Village of Benzonia Academy Park West (Village of Benzonia) A unique combination of wooded and open space surrounding the Congregational Church grounds. It includes a roadside picnic area, and parking for the museum, firehall, and township offices. Service Area: Village of Benzonia, Benzie County, State of Michigan. Accessibility Assessment - 1 a. Benzonia College – State Historic Marker Located in the park across US-31 from Mills Community House. Marker erected in 1964.
Benzie Area Historical Museum (Benzie County Historical Society) The original Congregational Church, that has been expanded, and houses a unique and growing collection of historically significant artifacts from the areas past. Village Roadside Park and Parking Lot (Village of Benzonia) Miniature park located on Michigan Avenue (US-31) on the southeast corner of the intersection with Traverse Avenue. Forested Open Space (Village of Benzonia) Dedicated parklands in the original village plan. Located along Michigan Avenue (US-31) at the intersections of Severance Street to the north and South Street to the south. To be incorporated as part of a proposed Parks and Pathways project.
